Why We Spend So Much On Botox

By Marla Nordina

These days we live in a world where external appearances seem to create first impressions. The drive to make oneself look as they did in their youth is strong, and many of us will do whatever they can in their attempts to achieve this. Wrinkles and lines on the face are an unsightly and unwelcome sign of ageing, and many people are turning to the idea of getting injections of botox in order to help renew skin that is getting older looking.

In the past, improving one's appearance was all about getting some form of plastic surgery that actually involved one to go under the knife. After a surgery, it can be weeks until the patient is fully recovered. It would even take months before any sort of effect showed. Procedures like this are no longer the only option, because of the use of botox treatments. In a report that was published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2012, there was a marked increase in the use of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as botox injection, while there was a decline in the total number of cosmetic surgeries performed.

Why is this?

Plastic surgery is much more expensive, so botox gives someone with a lower economic status the ability to get treatments. Complex cosmetic surgeries are just too expensive these days, and it comes as no surprise that the cheaper, safe and extremely effective botox injections are becoming more and more popular.

It should be noted that people with a larger amount of disposable income would be more likely to get botox, so it is more popular in those circles. Celebrity papers have an article almost every day about some celebrity who has undergone botox.

What factors made botox to well-known?

There is no doubt that botox has pretty much taken the world of cosmetic surgery by storm. The ease of administration, the absence of in-hospital stay for the procedure, its effects and its low cost make it an attractive option when it comes to treating fine lines and wrinkles. Not only do people use these treatments for aesthetic reasons, they are also being used to help blepharospasm, spastic paraplegias, and other kinds of muscle spasms.

The effects can last for months and are obvious and recognisable. It has a positive effect on the confidence of the person, and there is a high chance that they would recommend it to a friend or family member.

With such advantages, it should not be surprising to hear that botox injection have now become part and parcel of our daily culture, boosting the confidence of millions and bringing out their inner glow!
